The first leg of the CHAFE 150 route heads north to Bonners Ferry along a portion of the International Selkirk Loop; a 280-mile (450 km) scenic drive that encircles the Selkirk Mountains, spanning portions of Washington, Idaho, and British Columbia. It holds the distinction of being North America's only multi-national scenic drive and is designated as one of only 32 "All-American Road" National Scenic Byways in the United States. Key features of the loop include:
-
Landscape: The route travels through snow-capped peaks, crystal clear rivers and lakes, and quiet byways.
-
Activities: It offers a wide range of outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking (road and mountains), fishing, boating, birding, and winter sports like skiing and snowmobiling.
-
Culture: The loop passes through charming small towns rich with history, offering local dining, arts, and shopping.
-
Travel Options: While primarily a driving tour for cars and RVs, it is also a popular route for motorcyclists and cyclists.
